Tanemahuta Gray graduated from the New Zealand School of Dance in 1994. Since then, he has worked professionally as a dancer, choreographer, aerialist, director and producer, both in New Zealand and around the world. He is currently the Contemporary Dance and Maori Cultural tutor at Whitireia Performing Arts.

From 1999 - 2004 Tanemahuta performed with De La Guarda, one of the world’s leading aerial theatre companies in London, Las Vegas, Buenos Aires, Amsterdam, Berlin, Seoul and Sydney. His experience included being performance captain for the Las Vegas and Buenos Aires seasons.

Tanemahuta has produced and directed 10 productions and outdoor events. Since 2001 he conceived and began building his major work Māui – One Man Against The Gods. Over 61,000 New Zealanders have now seen the show over four performance seasons nationwide from 2003 - 2007. He has also directed the Manawatu Elements Carnival and Tribute08 – A Vietnam Commemoration reunion in Wellington in 2008.

In addition, Tanemahuta has done many aerial gigs nationwide, opening the Qantas Media Awards Ceremony in 2007 on TVNZ, and also performing the finale act of climbing down the Embassy Theatre walls for the world premiere of The Return of the King film from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
